Hester Bijl

Leiden University’s Vice-Rector Magnificus Hester Bijl will be opening the Sustainable Business Battle on the 13th of May. Hester Bijl holds the portfolio for education at the university. She studied Applied Mathematics at Delft University of Technology, where she also obtained her PhD. She also holds a master’s in English Language and Culture from Leiden University. She has received individual awards (VIDI and ASPASIA) from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) for her research in the area of Computational Fluid Dynamics with applications in aeronautics and wind energy.


Marjan Minnesma

Marjan Minnesma will hold a speech during the Kickoff. She is the director of Urgenda. Under her leadership Urgenda won the Urgenda Climate case in 2015. This is the first case in which regular citizens managed to hold their government accountable for taking insufficient action to keep them safe from dangerous climate change. As a consequence the Dutch government is now forced to take more effective action on climate change. She is seen as one of the leaders in the transition towards an energy neutral society in the Netherlands.




Minister Schultz, the Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Environment, will be the keynote speaker at the Final of the Sustainable Business Battle. She studied at Leiden University where she was already active for the political party VVD as well as at L.S.V. Minerva.
She will also be on the jury panel of the SBB Final.
